Our
antenatal teacher holds classes locally in the evening or at
weekends so your partner or a friend can come along with you.
The groups are small, offering you the chance to become informed
about all aspects of pregnancy, birth and life with a new baby.
They also give you the chance to make new friends.
Antenatal classes are organised based on demand and availability
of teachers and venues. Places fill fast and classes are often
oversubscribed.
Please
contact Rachel on 0870 066 9329 or email bookings1c@nct.org.uk
as soon as possible after your 12 week scan if you are interested
in the antenatal classes.
The course gives parents an opportunity
to learn about what happens to a woman's body during labour
and birth, explore relaxation methods, breathing techniques,
massage and different birth positions. It also covers common
obstetric procedures, information on drugs offered during labour
and a discussion of different ways of feeding your baby. Each
course costs £120 per couple, which can be paid in installments
if you would prefer. We also have a concessions policy. Please
contact
Rachel on 0870 066 9329 or email
bookings1c@nct.org.uk
for more details.
Our antenatal teachers, breastfeeding counsellors
and postnatal discussion leaders undergo a thorough training
with the NCT although they are not required to be medically
qualified. All teachers, counsellors and leaders are expected
to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in maternity
care and must register with us every year. Their role is to
offer support, information, practical skills and resources to
help parents make informed choices for themselves and their
babies. They do not offer medical advice and parents are asked
to take any questions about the medical care of mother and baby
to their midwife, health visitor or doctor.
